The Blue Heron<\/p>\n
Gracefully gliding in at sunset,<\/p>\n
the Blue Heron stands silently<\/p>\n
assessing its safety, ever vigilant,<\/p>\n
scouring the shallow waters<\/p>\n
off Puget Sound for a meal.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Broken clam shells, small rocks, and kelp<\/p>\n
lie in clear pools gently pulsing<\/p>\n
in shore and out, inshore and out.<\/p>\n
The silver glint of a small minnow Is<\/p>\n
terminated with one deft strike from the bird.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Two herons drop down nearby.<\/p>\n
Their silken flight ending soundlessly.<\/p>\n
Timing is everything to these sky masters.<\/p>\n
Soon the tide will rush the beach and<\/p>\n
the herons will retreat to their secret domains.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
